Announcement re: Advanced Standing and Dual Credits

Memo: Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Announcement re: Advanced Standing and Dual Credits Memo: November 25, 2014 RPT Chairs & Co-ordinators:

As you may know, concerns were raised at the SCWI Symposium about dual credit students being required to pay a fee to have their dual credit recognized towards a college program once they had finished secondary school and were enrolled in a college program. Thanks to the efforts of Judy Morris, President, Lambton College, Jim Madder, President of Confederation College and Chris Whittaker, President of Humber College, a decision has been made to waive that fee.

The announcement below will be posted on the SCWI web site:

Students who earn a dual credit can, under certain circumstances, use that credit towards the requirements of a full-time college program once they register at a college. Details on the process involved can be found at this URL:

http://www.scwi.ca/docs/SCWI%20Website%20Dual%20Credit%20statement%20from%20CRALO%20June%202013.pdf

In some cases, in the past, there was a fee associated with the process of reviewing the credit and determining if and how advanced standing credit would be granted.

We are pleased to announce that at a recent meeting of the Committee of Presidents, the presidents approved a recommendation that all colleges would waive advanced standing charges for transferred credits for students who attained their credits under a dual credit program.

SCWI / IJECT Announcement

Memo: Thursday, October 23, 2014

RPT Chairs & Co-ordinators:

On behalf of the SCWI Team it is my great pleasure to announce the launch of our newly-updated websites: www.scwi.ca and www.iject.ca . With extensive input from Chairs, Co-ordinators and RPT members, Ministry staff and others, we have been able to improve the content, appearance and accessibility of these sites. For these practitioners' sites our goal remains to create and organize information that is easily accessible, relevant, current and broad in both scope and depth.

Some of the new features include:

  • a newly-designed visual interface
  • access to the necessary forms and documents
  • a research section
  • policies and procedures
  • relevant and up-to-date Ministry directives
  • expanded how-to manuals and videos...and many more new features!

We look forward to your ongoing suggestions as we strive to facilitate your work with students.

Special thanks to our SCWI team members for their tireless efforts to make these sites both useful and very attractive: Rick Meridew, Michael Moher, Maurice Proulx, Michael Smith, Bill Jack, Sonja Vandermeer and Lynn Grittani. And, once again, many thanks to the RPT members who have helped with this project.
